Disco

DSC08757

ready to dance the night away =)

Last Friday, Poch attended for the first time the Disco night sponsored by the parents and faculty association at their school. Initially, I would not have wanted her to join the Disco but I felt guilty for I knew that I have been depriving her of some of her time in school because I was too sick to bring her to school. So, I thought I'll make it up to her by letting her dance the night away.

Poch was so excited that she asked Thomas to hurry up in eating his dinner because she might be late for the Disco. Good thing that she accepted my suggestion of what outfit to wear but she completed it by choosing on her own the foot wear. She said, "I'm not going wear anything with high heels, mommy, because I'm going to dance and it'll make my foot hurt."... hehehe I realized when we get to the venue that she's right. The dance floor was quite big that the kids were able to move freely. And most of them(including Poch), just took off their shoes and dance barefoot on the dance floor.

Thomas and I were amazed to witness Poch really dancing not only with her classmates but also with her other schoolmates. We could feel and see that she was having fun for she performed the requests of the DJ together with the other kids. Shortly before the disco night ended, parents were asked to join their kids on the dance floor. So, I joined Poch on the dance floor while Thomas tried to take some photos and videos. We were made to dance three songs (Hokey Pokey, Macarena, & YMCA) and it was real fun. And I realized that it was a rare bonding moment for us. I was glad that I did not pass this opportunity to be with Poch in this kind of school activity.

Poch was all smiles after the Disco. They were all given potato chips as snacks. Though it was just an hour of fun but it was all worth it. It surely made a good start for the weekend. =)

To my mom, a zillion thanks for all the things/sacrifices you've done for me (as well as with my siblings). I hope I could emulate even half of the traits you have as a wonder mom. It's always been you who mainly gave me strength, guidance and unselfish care and love that made me brave and confident in facing my own life's journey in the real world. I love you so much, Ma! Happy Mother's Day! xoxoxoxo

Happy Mother's Day to all MOTHERS (even to the ones who never physically bore a child but was a true mother to someone) in the whole world!!! *hugs*

is it getting old or asking for a bro/sis...

As we (Poch and I) were walking towards school this morning, we saw an old lady walking in a slow pace. A few moments after we passed by the old lady, Poch commented...

Poch: I don't like you to get old mommy.
Me: Why? Everybody gets old.
Poch: But mommy, I don't like you to get old. (in a quite exasperated voice)
Me: Why?
Poch: I don't like you to get old mommy because I want you to be always my mommy. If you'll get old, you'll be in a wheel chair. And there are two of you. It's just only me. How can I do that? I have to push you and daddy at a time?
Me: Oh?!!! (asking myself if this is her other way of asking for a bro/sis... or what... hehehhe)

Thankfully we reached the school and Poch got occupied in going to their classroom on her own before I could respond to what she said. =P

on household chores

Growing up, we (my siblings and I) never really experienced having a 'yaya' nor someone else (other than our parents) taking care of us for a long time. It was my mom who single-handedly took care of us (including papa) each day. She makes it a point that we're well taken cared of by providing us healthy cook meals (she's a nutritionist by profession), doing the laundry and ironing of all our clothes on her own, keeping our place tidy and in order, etc... In short, my mom was a full time homemaker when we were growing up.

Now more than ever, I appreciate the fact that we never really grew up having a 'yaya' and having our mom as our sole carer when we're growing up because my mama was able to teach us the important things we need to know especially when it comes to doing household chores. I remember that each of us were given household assignments especially during weekends like washing dishes, house cleaning, washing and ironing clothes and even doing simple errands like buying some stuffs at the nearby 'sari-sari' stores or public market. I realized now all the values I've learned from those experiences are indeed priceless. And it's a great help knowing all those things especially now that I have my own family to take good care of on my own in a foreign land.

We (Thomas and I) have been teaching our daughter, Cybelle, some simple household chores in order to start passing on the skills and values of learning how to do household chores. We took the opportunities when she was really up to helping us do the household works like the times when the pics on this post were taken. There are times that she would volunteer herself in doing a particular tasks or would even asks us to give her some job to do. But there are also times that laziness kicks into her that no amount of encouragement really works for her to do a job. And lately, we found out that she likes us to use this phrase, "Pangga, I got a job for you...", when requesting her to do something. So far, she responds to it positively but we don't know for how long... hehehe I'll keep you posted on the developments in my future blogs. =)
